A MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL..

ALOHA  | Aloha kākou, e ka ʻohana ʻo Piʻilani, mai ka pukana a ka lā mehana i Haleakalā a i ka hālāwai āna i uka o Mauna Hina; aloha ē.  We are all navigating these times and tides as best as we can - as a school, within our families, and as responsible community members - and it is always appropriate to begin with love.  So it is with much love I reach out to all of our families today, in this, our very first Ke Kula ʻo Piʻilani newsletter.

ʻIMI ʻIKE  |  The difficult decision to temporarily close the doors of our school in response to this worldwide pandemic was made with full understanding of the impact on our daily routines and the complexity of continuing education through distance learning.  The National Association of Independent Schools recommends that schools enacting campus closures continue to provide key services to students through a combination of online and non-online activities. Our faculty and staff have been working tirelessly to build lessons befitting the nature of our unique program.  We remain devoted to our   students and we ask your patience as we develop our Remote Learning Plan.

KULEANA  |  Know that I am constantly evaluating the situation and remain prepared to take every precaution necessary to keep our students and families healthy and safe.  Decisions are made in collaboration with our Hui Hoʻokahua ʻo Piʻilani, our school board of directors, with the guidance of our licensing board and in consideration of the recommendations of our public health authorities.  For now, our return-to-school date is scheduled for Monday, May 4, 2020; however, this may change.  Families should prepare in case campus closure is extended to the end of this school year.  Regardless of whether we meet in person or not, learning will continue for your students.

MAU NŌ KE KULEANA  |  Of important note, students are responsible for the timely and satisfactory completion of distance learning activities, lessons, and projects, both online and non-online, as assigned by their kumu and/or practitioner during this campus closure. Teachers are providing as much support as possible and their office hours are provided below.  They are available via e-mail, text, and phone, as well as on Zoom for scheduled class meetings and by appointment.  Reach out to them as needed - they are eager to hear from you and your student and are willing to provide clarity, guidance, and reasonable accommodations to your Remote Learning Plan as appropriate.

It is my intention to continue to communicate through weekly newsletters.  Stay safe, stay strong, stay healthy.   I have boundless appreciation and love for you all.  Mahalo nui a e mālama pono ʻoukou.

Me ke aloha pau ʻole no ʻoukou pākahi āpau,

Kahu Kekai Robinson, Poʻokula Kūikawā
