Open Position — Poʻo Kula

The Poʻo Kula of Ke Kula ʻo Piʻilani provides powerful leadership, management, and supervisory skills that promote learning for our students. The Poʻo Kula stands for the ideas and values that helps to develop good citizens and is a steward of learning for students, staff, families and the community - providing clear vision, inspiration, energy, and insight for all stakeholders in an enlightening and high-functioning school community. The Poʻo Kula creates a learning environment that is centered on academic excellence integrating traditional Hawaiian wisdom, culture, and language, and an environment that is reflective, engaging, and nurturing. As the protector of the whole child, the Poʻo Kula guides day-to-day operations to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of all students, staff, and families. The Poʻo Kula is attentive to the needs of all stakeholders and the viability and longevity of the success of the organization. The Poʻo Kula is responsible for creating a positive school culture, long-term plan for student success, managing people, data, and school processes, improving and cultivating leadership in others. Qualifications

  • The Poʻo Kumu/Hope Poʻo Kula shall have a Bachelorʻs, Masterʻs or Doctorate Degree with no less than five (5) years of education and administration experience.

  • Conversational Hawaiian language with the ability to make public presentations in ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi as well as drive Hawaiian cultural education is required.

  • Small business and/or non-profit organization management experience preferred.

  • Networking, marketing and publicity skills preferred.


Open Position — Executive Director

Duties for the Executive Director will include managing company assets, optimizing financial operations, providing leadership to all staff, establishing business goals, ensuring tax compliance, advising the board of directors on organizational activities, overseeing and streamlining daily operations, etc.

Required Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills to effectively manage a growing staff and aid the board of directors in efficient use of meeting time

  • Ability to hone fundraising skills to monitor a capital campaign project or ongoing grants

  • Having the vision to put the mission into a long term view and lead the community toward a collective vision

Open Position - Kumu

POSITION SUMMARY

Kumu is the title of the classroom instructor or teacher. The Kumu is responsible for modeling the values of aloha, kuleana, and ʻimi ʻike and upholding the legacy of unity and community of Ke Aliʻi Piʻilani. The Kumu will create a comfortable and welcoming environment where students can achieve academic success and thrive in Hawaiian language and Hawaiian cultural perspectives. The Kumu shall prioritize the academic, social, and behavioral growth of the students, maintain appropriate records regarding lessons created and student observations, and maintain a strong relationship with parents, working collaboratively with his/her colleagues and the administration for the benefit of the students and the school.

Qualifications

  • Must possess the academic qualifications relevant to this position: Bachelorʻs Degree, or currently enrolled in a Bachelorʻs program AND a minimum of 1-year onsite classroom experience as a teacherʻs aide, or Montessori certification grade-level appropriate AND a minimum of 2-years onsite classroom experience as a teacherʻs aide, or 4-years onsite classroom experience as a teacherʻs aide AND no less than 60 qualified hours of supervisor-approved professional development training courses in topics related to the fields of education, child development, curriculum design, pedagogy, and Hawaiian studies, language, and culture.

  • Must be able to design lesson plans and contribute to Hawaiian medium education curriculum

  • Must have a high level of ability to teach lessons in Hawaiian language

  • Must be skilled on a computer with general software and online platforms

  • Must be familiar with the use and operation of typical school office equipment

  • Must be skilled in both oral and written communications

  • Must be committed to the health of the school community
